Topic: Sympatico DSL service and SME 5.0

I used to be a cable-modem user... but due to recent changes (i.e. shaw) I had to switch to MTS's DSL service - which isn't necessarily a bad thing... if I could just get the damn DSL connection up...

I'm ok when it comes to most stuff... but this DSL and PPPOE has me absolutely baffled. Is there a simple how-to that I've overlooked?

Can someone help... please?

Sorry - I should be more specific:

1) PPPOE comes up [OK]
2) If I go into the admin panel and test the internet connection, it passes.




Problem:
I can't display any web pages outside of the local network.

Any thoughts?

User ID is set up properly. The modem is connecting and the Test Internet Access function from the admin screen works.

Still can't see web pages though.

1. Can you ping an IP address outside your network ?
2. Can you ping a URL outside your network ?
3. Can your mail clients see the ISP mail server ?

1. yes - though not reliably

OK. You seem to have access to the outside world although, the unreliable factor is a worry. Have you looked at the log files ?

I was hoping you could configure one client to try and access a mail server outside your network just to check connectivity.

Exactly.
I tried setting the MTU on eth1 (connected to the DSL modem) to 1392 but that didn't seem to help at all.
