Topic: E-Smith SME v5.0 as a CD Server

I have a requirement to setup Samba on E-smith as a CD Server for a school. I have read and worked through the HowTo which can be found here http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/CDServer-HOWTO/index.html. I created the custom entry to mount /mnt/iso as a samba share by using a E-Smith custom-template that matched the configuration shown in the howto.

I have got everything working except for when I tried installing an application from the mounted ISO/samba share from the server the install application took nearly 4 minutes to start the installation process.

The client I used for testing and the server both have 10/100 NICs and are connected through a 100mb switch.

Anybody tried this before and got it working without the speed problem I have experienced?

Could a addon to the server-manager be developed to make this easier to configure and setup?

I'd suggest copying the contents of the CD to an ibay and making the ibay read-only.
