Hosting Mail for Full/Sub Domain
« on: November 22, 2001, 07:23:18 PM »
I am installing a new E-SMith SME v5 server to a site that has an exisiting Exchange 5.5 server which is hosting email for a sub-domain for this company. I am going to hosting a new full domain name for this company on the E-Smith server but I would still like to host the mail from the sub-domain on this server as well and be delivered to the users mailboxes.

The users are all swapping over to the new full domain and there are still alot of clients who have their sub-domain address and of course the users don't want to miss any of thier emails from the sub-domain.

How can I host this sub-domain on the E-Smith server and have that mail delivered to each users full domain mailbox. So basically I want to end up with 2 email addresses per username.

Regards
Craig

From the NT point of view, simply create a forwarding address on the Exchange box for each user that points to their new domain.  Leave that up until you can delete the old subdomain (usually 90-120 days) and then simply kill the secondary domain.

In this way you don't have to mess around with the two domains on a permanent basis.

From the SMEV5 viewpoint, take a look at:

Hope this helps....
