4.1.2 running samba 2.2.1 and XP
« on: December 02, 2001, 09:21:51 PM »
Quick Question, when I want to add e-smith/linux groups to XP (in a domain set-up) as local machine administrators from the e-smith box I use (4.1.2)  (which, can I just add, is FANTASTIC at what it does) I can easily add users, but cannot find any groups or add the my.domain.com/Domain Users group either (get the message "Infromation returned from the object picker for Object "Domain USers" was incomplete. The object will not be processed )

Does this mean that XP cannot determine/read existing groups on the e-smith ? I could not get XP to find any groups that I had created.

Do I need to perform the upgrade to 2.2.2 Samba to get this to work ?

Cheers in advance

Windows can read unix users and groups in Samba 2.2.1, provided that ACL support is enabled.  It gets a little complicated when you try to mix local windows permission and unix(Samba) users/group.  Upgrading to 2.2.2 won't make the situation much better.

As Samba matures, more of these "higher" level networking functions will become available.  Be very careful with these fuctions on an SME server as it has ALOT of built in fuctionality that Samba doesn't control.

Thanks Greg,

Can you tell me how to do that ? I am willing to risk breaking my server and network to get this going because I know I can easily rebuild my server ;). What the heck !!!
