SMTP and Sympatico HSE

Just found out that Bess Sympatico HSE filters the SMTP port 25 thus not allowing an SME 5 server to send SMTP mail directly to the internet.

Not sure if this is a new feature or if this is well known already by all.

In the Server-administrator, there is a way to tell SME to send all SMTP mail directly to the ISP SMTP server.  THis works fine if you are using the SME email.

However, I seem to have difficulties having my internal lan's client to send mail using some other email, for example the sympatico.ca email account.

I have tried connecting directly to the smtp1.sympatico.ca server in the client's setup but I get some error connecting and no mail is sent.  The error is not about authentication but is essentially about not being able to establish a connection!  I can ping smtp1.sympatico.ca just fine though.

I tried to use my sme server as the smtp server but in that case, it seems that the ISP setting made on the server-manager does not work.  THe email seems to have been sent from the client's point of view.  However, the mail seem to be sent to never-never land and no error is ever received back!

Has anyone seen this type of problem and fixed it?

Any advice appreciated.
