Topic: My Cable Operator Blocked Ports 25 and 110!!! WHAT CAN I DO?

Please, i really need your help!

Cox Communications blocked these two ports (25, 110), and even more, but they are careless right now.

I use the domain name oreoweb.com

So I would need some suggestions...

I had the idea to use other ports in the server, but I don't know if somebody tries to send me an email, would it go with port 25 or what?

I really need help and I'm very much confused.

I think it stinks that a network provider would yank the rug out from under you like that --- but they deal with a lot of problems that can only be solved by brute force.  The sad fact is that cable systems can be very high maintenance, given the network knowledge of the average customer.  They are trying to reduce their support costs by ensuring all people do is surf for http, and get mail from known mail services.  That's the crummy reality of the current situation.

Seriously, I recommend you find a cheap hosting service, and run your site and mail from there.  Residential-grade broadband systems are very tentative in their support for inbound services --- and with telco competition dwindling, it's likely to get even more draconian.  I have been thru fits trying to find a reasoably-priced ISP that would support my connection for running web & mail services --- and I had to throttle my speed back and switch for SDSL to ADSL in order to fit the service into my budget.  I also expect the ISP might dry up and blow away at any time --- so I keep my eyes on alternative hosting solutions all the time.

If I change the ports, would it work?

Not unless you convince everyone to send your mail to that port.  Can you get DSL where you are?  I am on telocity and it works great, static ip and they dont care about servers, they will even host your dns free
