Printing Extra Page??
« on: January 08, 2002, 03:04:41 PM »
Hi,

I have setup a print queue on my SME server and whenever I print from an Apple machine I get an extra page printed before the actual printout:

User: root
Host: (host).(domain).com
Class: A
Job: (STDIN)

Anyone know how to prevent this from happening?

Usually this means that an option is set in the /etc/printcap file to print a banner page before the actual print job. If I recall correctly, Mitel already has the option set to disable the banner pages.

What is the model of printer you are using, What version of Mac OS, and how is the printer configured, what options are set in the driver?

Well, I am also guessing you are using an internal HP JetDirect Print Server. I checked HP's website and found that you probably have a variation of the 600N for your 2100. I downloaded the manual and it has an option to disable banner pages (which apparently are on by default). You need to do this via Telnet or through the web interface.

Of course, this all assumes you are using the JetDirect at all. Email me direct if you want the manual I already pulled the PDF from HP's website.
