Topic: sme v5 will not let me get windows updates any more

For months now i have been SME (version 5) to update windows syatem boxes win 98 se, win 2000 pro.


I can get the windows updates page,
Click product updates and scans system for required updates OK,
Then tick the files required and click download, accept licence,

But nothing happens i just get message unable to retreive files.

every thing else appears to be running OK
yahoo, icq, webpage downloads, ftp

I am unable to work out why or where to look to resolve this issue can any body suggest a starting point,  fix

Or is this a new trick from Microsoft

there has been issues with the update page in the last few days which is a microsoft problem not an sme problem

I have been using windows update for win2k behind an esmith box for several months now with no problems.

So have i been using it but fr some odd reason it has just stoped working even after a reinstall i get nothing to download ubder
windows 98 SE
Windows 2000 Professional
XP Professional

all has stoped in the last 3 to 4 days it worked perfectly untill then

Exactly the same scenario here. I originally hoped this was a MS problem, but on witnessing a friend updating XP on Friday without problems I am beginning to wonder! I tried again when I got home but to no avail (running SME 5.1 beta 3). I will swap out the SME hd from the gateway box and try ICS via Winblows and let you know the result.

I just installed a "critical update" from Windows Update on my Win2k box behind a SME 5.0sp3 machine.  I'm afraid I don't have any good ideas for where to start, but it doesn't seem to be a categorical e-smith/SME problem.
