dyndns.org + ADSL on SME V5-3
« on: January 31, 2002, 10:45:22 AM »
On one of my e-smith boxes I installed the dyndns.org service and it works fine for a while. When I get a new ip-adress, the system doesnt send it to dyndns.org

starting /sbin/e-smith/dyndns/./dyndns.org or the /etc/cron/dnsupdate manually doesn´t work, only the S85ip-change script works correctly. (checked in the /var/log/messages) There must be a difference between these scripts keeping the solution inside.
I dont want to call up the S85ip-change script manually or as a cron-job

The known bug in the V5 version should be solved by the installed update 3.  Due to my poor knowledges of perl I cant find a solution by myself.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I fear i've got the same problem, my DYNDNS name follows when i reboot, but not when my IP is renewed, but i'm less advanced than you, because i don't even know how to renew it manually.

Temporarily i'll use a win32 client for dyndns on one of my client machines that runs 24 hours a day, but i'd like to know how to correct it.

Thanx in advance.

My problem was very easy to solve:

The e-smith box was the first soerver of a friend of mine. I installed and tested it and it worked. Later I found out, that he plugged the ADSL-modem into the connection-board of his workstation. Everytime, he switched off the workstation and the peripherals, the modem had no connection.

It took me a while to solve this ..... now the box works without any problems.

You can check manual ip-change with /etc/e-smith/events/ip-change/S85update-dns

You should have a look in the /var/log/messages - near the bottom you will find a line:

IP Adress xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx already in database.

If you find any other information, please email me.

BTW I had some problems to understand, that the local name of my server has to be the same as the registrated,

So for instance, the local name of my friends server is
helge-tux.homelinux.org (wich is the same as the internet name)
