ADSL modem problem (Aust)

Hi

I have a gateway connected to Tel$tra via one other their adsl modems. Problem with it is the connection periodically hangs and only a modem power off/on fixes it. It isn't at a consistent time. If anything it is more higher load related but this is inconclusive. The same modem on a windows box with the tel$tra drivers etc works fine. The link just stops, no error lights on modem, only way to tell is no browse/mail.

Config. SME5.0 with 03 blade. Internal is an rtld8139. external is an rtld8029.

The gateway works fine - a power down/up on it has no effect - has to be the modem.  Tried swapping to another similar modem and exactly the same thing happens.

I haven't tried changing the external interface network card yet but that appears to be one of few possibilities... I believe there were some issues with the 8029 but  thought the Linux driver (ne2k-pci) fixed those.

Any one else seen something like this or have any ideas??

Regards
kevin

Hi Kevin

I had that problem at first.
It was the ADSL-modem that didn't like full duplex.
So I changed the network-card settings and it worked prefectly.

I think that you can have the same problem.
Give it a try...

I have the same problem with Sympatico HSE in Ottawa, Canada.  The only fix is to cycle the power on the DSL modem.

I am using the 8XXXtoo module (can't remember the number but there is only one ending with "too") as the realtech driver did not work with my NIC (DLink).

How do you check for the duplexing setting of the NIC and how do you change it?

Serge.
