Aztech ADSL Turbo 900E Setup Help please
« on: February 02, 2002, 12:43:32 PM »
Has anyone set up an Aztech Turbo 900E ADSL router with eSmith? I can't get the blasted thing to work and would appreciate pointers on how to set up the router to work. The VPI/VCI is 8/32.

Many thanx

I haven't played with that brand but I have setup a couple of ADSL modems. What type of encapsulation are you using? My VPI/VCI is 8/35 and I have a static IP using bridged encapsulation (LLC_SNAP) FWIW.

I should be using the same, ie, bridged llc.

Should I set the modem as a bridge only and then get SME512 take care of the pppoe protocol?

The router uses Virata and I went through the manual trying to set it up for pppoe operation to test under Windows XP but couldn't, did as bridge no good... I wiped out all configs and started fresh with pppoe and now I could get the ip assigned by the isp but couldn't surf... something to do with relaying? as a couldn't ping any outside location.

I would appreciate knowing what I need to actually do, ie:

1. what does esmith expect as far as adsl routers are concerned
2. how would I set the ip address of the second (external) ethernet card
3. how do I set up the adsl router: as pppoe, pppoa, ethernet bridge, transparent bridge... my isp requires username@isp.com and password to be registered via either pppoa or pppoe.

thanx for your help

Got it working at last!

I set the router to "transparent bridge" and restarted the pppoe service and it works great! I using it now to type this post..

So:

1. flush everything (ip, subnet, bridge, dhcp, as the manual suggests)
2. Select "Transparent Bridge"
3. Enter your IP address (I used 10.0.0.x)
4. Enter your subnet as 255.0.0.0
5. Enter your VPI/VCI numbers (8/35)
6. Select LLC SNAP mode
7. Hit Apply and then quit
8. do a "service pppoe restart" on e-smith
9. come here and tell us about your experience!

Hope this helps someone...
