I've been running the betas of 5.1 on a new server, while continuing to run 4.1.2 on my older production box. With the release of 5.1.2, I had planned to migrate production to the new box. I've hit some problems, however, that look like a bug or bugs:
I backed my production box to the desktop of my Win 2K PC (several times, actually - hit some space problems...). This indicated a 2GB file, came out at 2.7 GB, even though a flexbackup to disk of the complete system was 1.8 GB - I assume the backup to desktop doesn't compress to the same level?
I then did a clean install (not an update) on the new server. This box has a pair of identical 40 GB disks, and I installed software RAID1. The install ran cleanly. I rebooted, switched my NICs to get the correct one talking to my ADSL modem and started the restore process. This appeared to be running - there was a couple of hours of disk activity on both boxes, until eventually, I noticed the browser window had changed to "The page cannot be displayed". I checked the server, and noted that raid1syncd was running. I left it running till it had finished and rebooted the server per the restore page instructions.
I then went into the server manager and noted that some settings I thought should be changed were still at default, including the user page. I ssh'd into my box and found that it doesn't seem to have restored anything, even after all the disk activity.
I therefore decided to try the restore again. This time, before any processing starts on the server, but after I've selected the backup file to use, I get "The page cannot be displayed" again.
I seem to have had a wasted day....
I'd appreciate any help on this - I just noticed a similar posting to the General list, so it may be a broader problem than just my situation. I've also posted it to bugs@e-smith.com
Thanks,
