Unable to Stream with Jukebox
« on: February 02, 2002, 10:03:08 PM »
Hi,

I recently installed MP3 Jukebox on SME 5.0. I can download mp3's from my
server but am unable to stream. I'm using a dynamic DNS service and all is
working fine except when I try and stream an mp3 winamp reports "unable to
resolve hostname" and I notice it is trying to resolve "www.mydomain.domain.com" It appears to be adding the www to my
domain name which is not a valid DNS name. I saw in an early post someone
suggested creating a virtual domain using my actual domain name. I tried this
but it did not work, it was still trying to use www.mydomain.domain.com. Has
anyone ran in to this problem or have a fix for it.

Thanks,
BC

This problem has been noted before ... a forum search should turn up the proper entries into your client PC's HOSTS file.

The solutions in the previous post only deal with fixing the problem on the
local lan.

Making entries in your HOST file on your client PC's only works if you're  on
a local LAN. I'm trying to access the Jukebox from outside the local lan
via the internet and since I'm using Dynamic DNS making entries in your host
file won't do much good since the IP address is subject to change.

With the current setup of the MP3 blade, www.whatever must be a valid hostname.  AFAIK, there's no way around this requirement.  Some dynamic DNS services support wildcards, such that *.yourdomain will resolve (dyndns.org will do this, at least).

Dan, thanks for the tip, that was it. I enabled wildcards (I'm using no-ip's DNS service) and all is working fine.
