Adding Multiple Users via Script, Now locked out of Manager
« on: February 20, 2002, 06:56:13 PM »
Hi all,

I have added multiple users (500) to my E-Smith server 5.0 via the user contributed howto script, and now I am unable to get back into the Manager page. It leaves you being promted for the password and username for admin, and after three attempts it gives you an access denied page.

The following is a snippet from the /var/log/httpd/admin_error_log

[Wed Feb 20 15:06:30 2002] [error] access to /etc/e-smith/web/panels/manager/html failed for 172.16.9.5, reason: AuthExtern pwauth [/usr/lib/apache/pwauth]: Failed (255) for user admin

I have compared all related files ad their permissions to those of another 5.0 server, and there appears to be no difference.

Has anyone seen this problem and if so please could you point me in a direction, (Other than booting the SME disk).

Thank You

Paul McEnery

Paul,

Just a stab in the dark here, as I have not ever put in that many users....

Do a search here for too many groups.  There is a problem, as I recall, with the admin account getting bumped out if there are too many groups.  Perhaps somthing similiar?
