IMP 3 and visible folders/IMAP folders
« on: February 25, 2002, 07:17:52 PM »
Disclaimer - I have searched the Forum and found conflicting points about this issue. I have tried them all and they are not working (yet?) for me on my 5.1 server.

What is the preferred (Dan?) way to make IMAP folders visible with client IMAP software inside the my domain visible to myself outside using the cool IMP 3 recently upgraded using your HOWTO?

I have put the correct path into the Options, I have checked and unchecked the box which references IMAP folders, etc. I have created a templated and changed the location of folders in the php configuration. nada. Zip. INBOX and Sent.

Surely there is a simple way to make the folders one in the same? A link?

thanks

patrick

It  may depend on the client software.  I use Outlook, and I've set the "folder path" there to be Mail/.  IMP 3 is set as provided by my RPMs.  Don't know what to say; it works fine for me.

I use a combination of clients, mostly Mozilla as I find Outlook to be overkill and on the bloated side. Regardless, that means you have changed the default location to meet what IMP needs.

In my case, having already established a rather large group of folders (and others on the LAN) in the default IMAP location of a user's home.....I was looking for a way to change IMP to match what is the default for IMAP.

thanks anyhow.

Is http://myezserver.com/docs/mitel/imp-folders-howto.html the information you're looking for? I know in the older versions (can't remember whether I did it on 4.1.2 or 5.0, but I haven't upgraded to 5.1 yet) IMP's default mail folder isn't configured the same by default, and you have to change that to be able to see your existing folders in IMP. I realize you're using different versions that I haven't looked at yet, but this sounded like what you were looking for. Hope it at least helps...

Well, I needed the functionality so I had to do the simple thing - create folders in the Mail/ directory (which resides in the default UW IMAPsetting of my home directory amid the numerous IMAP folders). Then I copied the contents of a certain number of the folders to these new, duplicate folders.

They appear as they should in the secure webmail, IMP 3. This is great and is all I needed to do.

Having duplicate directories is less than efficient but hard drives are cheap so what the heck.

God only knows what I'd do if the IMAP daemon was Courier!

Thanks again for the IMP 3 work, Dan. Sure is a nice upgrade from the default version.

regards,

patrick
