D-Link DFE530 TX

Can't make work my D-Link DFE530 TX nic neither with 4.0 nor 4.1
Autodetection doesn't work and via-rhine driver doesn't fit...
(I have tested the card within Windows, it works fine)

I'm clueless any ideas ?

Unfortunately, I have had the same problem. To solve this problem I used another NIC card that was supported.

I had a similar problem where I couldn't make e-smith recognize my DFE538TX, it would always show up as unknown PCI controller. Even explicit driver assignment didn't help. I ended up replacing it with a 3com 905 card, which works fine.

Well, the ones I have are DFE-530TX+; I'm not sure if the non-plus models use the same driver, but mine use the rtl8139 module and work fine under 4.0.1 and 4.1.

rtl8139 driver does not work with DFE 530 TX (non plus)
I'm afraid that Marco and Sergei solution is the best (the only one...)
thanks anyway !

I have check Red Hat 7.0 hardware compatibility list... D-Link DF530 TX is OK !!
http://hardware.redhat.com/redhatready/cgi-bin/us/detaillist.cgi?item=633
does that mean that e-smith server has not been 'recompiled' with the via-rhine dirve ?? I'd like to understand why this network is compatible but not working... (and not DETECTED...)

Thanks to anyone who can help !!

Guillaume.

The e-smith server uses an unmodified RedHat 7 kernel.

We use D-Link DF530 TX cards in house - they work perfectly with e-smith 4.1. However, from your report and others, we strongly suspect that D-Link have released a different card with the same model number, but which is not compatible with the via-rhine driver included with RedHat 7.

The D-Link DF530 TX is not detected automatically because the RedHat hardware detection utility (kudzu) does not contain the relevant PCI identifiers in its tables.

For all I know D-Link DFE530 TX is very particular as to which PCI slot it's installed in. I had similar problems with this card regardles of the OS (Win/Linux). Try changing the PCI slot.

There are about 4 revisions of the DFE530-TX, each one uncompatible with the previous. Even the Windows drivers aren't compatible between revisions.

DLink moved away from the VIA chip, and since then I've been unable to get any modern 530TX card to work under any flavour of linux.

The original and 2nd generation 530TX's work without any problems though.
