Doubtful. How is IMAP different from any other service as far as the
client is concerned? Data is simply transmitted from point A to point B.
I'm betting the client app (say outlook express) is choking in someway,
thus making it appear that the connection is down. Both Outlook and
Outlook Express exhibit very strange behavior when IMAP is used. Try
switching email clients and see how things fair out. I prefer a web
based IMAP client. It's simply, runs on the server, and can be checked
from anywhere with a net connection. My boss, on the other hand, hates
web based email clients and has learned to live with Outlook hiccups.
