Web Admin Page Disappears After Upgrade to 4.1
« on: February 17, 2001, 03:27:13 AM »
I upgraded from 4.01 to 4.1, and all appears well as far as i-bays, shared printer, user accounts, and so on. I like the ability to access the web configuration pages fromlynx at the console - one of those very convenient things that seems obvious once you see it!

Unfortunately, I can no longer access the web admin pages from elsewhere on the local network. Access via lynx from the console seems fine, though a little sluggish, but using IE from another point on the lan, with URL http://192.168.1.49/e-smith-manager doesn't work anymore.

Is there something about the web server that changed between 4.01 and 4.1 that might cause this problem?

Thanks,

Is your e-smith server IP 192.168.1.49?  Default of course would be 192.168.1.1 but you could certainly have set yours for .49.  When you say 'doesn't work anymore' what response if any do you get?

Yes, the server is 192.168.1.49. My network has a DSL router that provides the gateway and DHCP for the network; the e-smith server is pretty much a file server only. Worked fine with version 4.01.

When I try to access the admin page, I get an IE error page that says:

"The page cannot be displayed

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web
site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need
to adjust your browser settings.

etc."

However, I can access the admin stuff via lynx from the console, or by using telnet from elsewhere on the network.

Never did figure out what was happening with this. I eventually gave up and installed 4.1 from scratch and the e-smith-manager web page appears as expected, though response to commands seems slow compared to 4.0.1 running on the same computer. Works, though.
