How to upgrade...

Could one of the more experienced users provide a recipe for how to upgrade e-smith? There are a number of php modules I would like to add. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Roger.

What specifically do you need to upgrade?

Eg.
Upgrade the system:
  Burn ISO onto new CD
  Make Boot Disk
  Boot Server with Boot Disk
  Select 'Upgrade' option

Upgrade components:
  Look at http://www.e-smith.org/cgi-bin/contrib.cgi
  Follow instructions

Luke,

Primarily what I am interested in is upgrading php. There are a number of modules in php which can be added "if PHP has been compiled with the --with-"

Given the e-smith configuration I understand that you cannot do this directly on the system using make, etc. (since they are not installed). I believe you can do this by creating an RPM on another machine (yes?) but that the configuration needs to be setup so that the files are put in the right place (yes/no?). A recipe for how to do this or a simpler solution would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Roger.

You might first want to take a look at my contributed RPMs in ftp://ftp.e-smith.org/pub/e-smith/contrib/DanBrown/RPMS/i386/; they cover most of the "stock" PHP extensions.

Thanks Dan,

I have looked but my most urgent requirement is to add pfpro, which does not seem to be "stock". Based on what I have read in the phorum you might be the guy to tell me how to create an RPM for that.

I doubt I can help you much, but I can offer a little general guidance:

1.  Develop on a RedHat 7.1 machine (preferably with the latest updates for gcc, glibc, etc.).

2.  Might as well start with my source RPM, which is also up on e-smith.org.

Don't know anything about what's involved in adding pfpro, sorry.
