Topic: M$ FrontPage Extensions

Hello, I'm a Win2K Server admin trying out SME Server to be a replacement for an expensive M$-based web and mail server.  So far so good and i am really impressed with SME, but my web content admin would like to know if she can still use FrontPage to maintain the site.

Can this be done?  Is there a set of procedures I can follow to get FrontPage extensions installed on SME?

There was recent thread here in which a couple of people were trying, but I don't think it was fully resolved.  I will be playing with it over the weekend, and I'll post whatever I find.

Too many dependant rpms, especially e-smith rpms would need to be uninstalled thus making many features useless.

This server is headed in the right directions, but not when FrontPage Ext are concerned.

I know, I've installed FP Ext on RH, MDH, Slack a zillion times

I stopped when I saw the TONS of dependencies, especially the e-smith rpms needed to be removed. Pretty much rendar the rest of the Server useless for FP Ext..Not an even tradeoff.

Thanks for the help.  Guess my web admin will have to do without Frontpage.  We're better off anyway.

I guess You know that frontpage extensions are a big security risk.

You can do something like keep an extra computer running with somekind of m$ OS installed and running IIS from there. Forward the domain where You want the frontpage ext installed to that server and keep the web there.

This way sme will be visible on the internet, but you'll be rumming the web from another computer
