Virtual Domains not working? Or I'm confused?
« on: February 20, 2001, 10:47:07 PM »
I am using e-smith 4©1 which I downloaded last week as soon as it was available from the ©nl server©  I am unable to create a virtual domain properly©
Following the manual's instructions when i try to create a fully qualified domain  such as, for want of a better example, "pups©net" I get this error message:

Error: unexpected or missing characters in domain name "pups©net"© The domain name should contain one or more letters, numbers, periods and minus signs© Did not create new domain©

However, if i try creating a virtual domain of "pups" then 4©1 allows this but surely this is the wrong way around?

I think if you use pups.net, it will work. It would not allow you to use special charecters. You may setup i-bay first and then assign that i-bay to your new virtual domain.

I'm quite new to e-smith and have only been fiddling with linux for a year or so i don't know much, but i am also having the same problem as OSD©  the e-smith box won't let me create a virtual domain called pups©net but will let me create one called pups©
this must be the wrong way around?!?OSD wrote:

Solved!
The machine I am using to access the e-smith configuration web pages is a Debian 2.2 system using Mozilla web browser.

When I tried using an old version of Netscape I was able to create the virtual domains no problem at all.

Brilliant!

I'm thinking that this is a problem with the browser typing a "copyright" symbol, instead of the "period" which it was supposed to?

Could be wrong - but seems obvious from these posts...
