gpmctl and proftpd

I get the following proftpd info in my messages log:

Mar 13 20:58:19 e-smith proftpd[12175]: e-smith.carrollweb.net (ppp-251-210.24-151.libero.it[151.24.210.251]) - FTP session closed.

The problem here is there is no proftpd session opened list anywhere in my logs.  Should there be?  I see this type entry several times over the last few days.

I also get the following error listed in my messages log:

Mar 13 21:17:54 e-smith mc: /dev/gpmctl: Connection refused
Mar 13 21:17:54 e-smith mc: /dev/gpmctl: No such file or directory

I believe it has something to do with that gem Midnight Commander, but I don't know what this means...
