IMP - Delegated - Still Available for outside ??
« on: March 21, 2002, 12:05:51 PM »
Hi,

For a few months I'm running a SME 5.1.2 at work and told SME to send the mail to the delegated server inside the network (Exchange, can't help it... they need shared schedules)

Now I would like to give the option for using IMP to the people to see/check their mailboxes from outside. Because of the delegation this became useless.

Is there a way that the mail still stays on the server and that Exchange gives it some kond of instruction about deleted mail ? I have been thinking about POP3 retrieval from exchange but that is not the answer. In that case I would prefer IMAP and that seems impossible or I am missing a manual for this.

Who has any tips/thoughts/advice/solutions ?

TIA

This is not a direct answer to your question:
However take a look at this thread (particularly towards the end)

You may not need exchange to get your shared scheduals

Jon,

As you said.. it's not the answer I was hoping for. I have been following those discussions already and want to do it without any additional software now. The future will be more gratefull to me I hope. At this moment I have to persuade management here all by myself and you know maybe about management in general... NO KNOWLEDGE about Networking. So.... I'm pushing SME more & more forward without management noticing it and hoping for the 'big bang' soon that the Windows server crashes AGAIN (would be the 3rd time). It's not the machine... but who am I telling this... we're all aware of the @!#$ M$ sells.

I am still very interested in a solution that works for me 'right out of the box' on all needed items we share here over the exchange server.

For now I hope there is an easy solution for the original question.

If you go to www.horde.org and look around at the docs there, you will find that IMP can be pointed at a server other than the one it is installed on.

Exchange supports IMAP so IMP pointing at an Exchange server should work.

On the other hand, Exchange has its own webmail component.

Hope this helps...

Jeff,

Thanx for the reply but I want best of both...(as it is now)... I want to be able to use IMP while it's ALSO delegated to the other server. SME has the option to delegate ALL incoming mail to another server... works smooth (incl. AV Scan) BUT all mailboxes in IMP stay empty because of this and that's what I wanne change.

Hmmmmmmm while I'm typing now.... I could try to delegate it to exchange and pick it up from every mailbox on the exchange en import it into IMP maybe... but funny workaround but could work.... have to see how I can do that...

I'll be back :-0
