Topic: Networkcards IRQ

I have run e-smith for a while now and it works perfect and it's very easy to use. I haven't used Linux before. Now I have upgraded the server to a 500 mhz with 128 RAM because I'm going to use it as a Halflife-CS server. But when I tried to install e-smith again the two networks card didn't work. E-smith finds the cards and drivers for them but I got a message that says that the cards have been given IRQ 0 and that they probably won't work. And they don't...
I have tried to give them another IRQ in the BIOS but I still got the messages and I have tried to move the cards around. I don't know what's happend? When I installed e-smith the first time on the old computer everthing went so smooth. I had the same networkcards then.

I have an ADSL connection and dynamic IP adress

Any ideas?

What motherboard, bios and network cards are you using?  What irq does the bios assign to your cards and are these irqs shared with any other devices?  Note that some pci slots share irq's with the AGP and onboard devices.  This would be documented in your m/b manual.  Make sure your nics are assigned unqiue non-shared irq's.

I have a Asus P3B-F motherboard and two old realtek 8029 network cards. I just have three PCI-cards in the computer. Two network cards and one graphic card (not AGP). The two network cards are placed in PCI slot 1 and 2 and the graphic card is placed in PCI slot 3. So they shouldn't share the same irq. In the BIOS setup they are assigned automatically. I have also tried to give them a specific irq but it doesn't help.

I have a problem which is nearly similar to yours:
My e-smith server was a p200 with an Asus Motherboard and a realtek 8139 NIC. I changed the computer to a K6-2 350 with a Fic VA 503+ using the same network card and this time, the e-smith server tells me that this card is unknown. I've tried to use the realtek module as well as the Ne2kpci module: it didn't worked. I've tried with a D-link DFE538TX NIC and it still says 'unknown card'. I only have a PCI graphic adapter and one nic card. As you did, I tried to move the cards but it didn't changed anything.
May be we should assign the irq directly in the module but I don't know how to do it... Any ideas?

I have solved my problem now...
In the BIOS setup I disabled plug & pray... sorry plug & play

I am having the same problem with the cards coming up as unknown first it was the linksys cards and now the D-Link -530tx+ cards.  I have tried assigning the irqs my self and still no go.  If anyone has a solution to this please let me know.  The cards come up as unknown wiht unknown drivers no matter what.  I even moved one of the cards and the scsi drive system to another computer with the same results.  I know the PCI bus is functioning becuase the scsi card works perfect.
