ftp clients can't reach remote sites

ftp clients can't reach remote sites
« on: April 09, 2002, 06:34:01 PM »
My ftp clients, ws-ftp and ws-ftp-pro from ipswitch, cannot connect to remote sites through the SME server. The server is running squid and diald. I could disable squid if necessary, but I want to keep diald to modem share. ftp downloads via web browsers work fine.

I've searched the forum msgs and not come up with anything useful. I've tried changing the ws-ftp settings, including port assignments, and read the SME manual. I also posted to the general discussion but have received no responses.

If your running V5.12 try disabling transparent proxying:

/sbin/e-smith/db configuration setprop squid Transparent no
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event remoteaccess-update

Not sure why you got the no DNS records? BTW, did it resolve your FTP issues?

Well NO but in trying to fix this ftp problem, it all went pair shaped.

reloaded sme
My modem is connecting (test works sometimes)
I thing that the modem is connection at a very very slow speed.
After 3-5 min it drops out. Will try different modem?
the log file said it connection OK
us robotics ext modem.
That is why I thing my error "no dns record" is coming up.

I reloaded because I thing a rooted around with the hostnames and address, as well play with host.conf files etc, etc, etc. to get the ftp working.

the problem is that now more problems have come.
this I post as new topic.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reloaded my sme 5.1.2 for other reasons, but have problems with my backed up
of my imap messages.

sme 5.1.2 server and gateway with client windows2000 hanging off the server.
Using outlook express to read mail, imaps.
Now the imaps are working fine in outlook(send and receive ok), the problem is the old messages that I backed up.
I copied the users folders under e-smith folder where the messages or kept.
Tried to copy the massages back in to these folders and directories and get error.
It talks about the files being out-of-date or wrong date and or deleted, "bogus" is other word used.

I need these messages back into the users imaps in outlook, can I change the headers to allow them to be read or re-enter the email/imap system.HOW

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any help with this would make me greatfull

thanks
