Topic: Problem with PPP connecting to ISP.. LCP timeout

I'm having connection problems to my ISP (iPrimus in Australia) using a US Robotics Sportster Flash MODEM. The /var/log/messages has the following information;

Using the same hardware and MODEM I can connect using Windows 98se and ICS with no problems. I've tried connecting to another ISP (ozemail) and a different MODEM with the same results.

Any idea's ?

Further research indicates that I should set lcp-max-configure to 30 to allow for a longer period of negotiation between my machine and my ISP (increases the maximum number of lcp configure packets pppd sends before giving up).
When I have tried this I will respond to this thread.

Well I tried the LCP-MAX-CONFIGURE setting last night but to no avail, the problem still exists. I think that Linux's massive configurability is both a blessing and a curse. As I can't afford to waste more time on this problem I willl have to use a Windows 98se/ICS solution for myself and a number of my customers.

I had the same problem with an ISP in Brisbane - but I changed my clients to
a: one.net.au
b: dingoblue.com.au
and they both work fine now.
I tried Freesco (www.freesco.org) with this problem ISP and had the same LCP timeout results and Freesco  works well with several other ISP's. I am using Freesco on many smaller networks.
I believe that the problem is not with e-smith but with the ISP's setup.

I had a client who was on iPrimus and we had no end of trouble with email reception. Believe iPrimus were blocking the service as the e-smith is a mail server for multple clients and they did not like the single IP address. We changed ISP and no problem.
