Hi Folks,

Just curious if anyone has tried installing this product?  I know it's documentation says it requires a "full" install of Red Hat but I assume if SME doesn't have it.....you can add it?

Thanks,

Craig

I did try this some time back and couldnt get it going on e-smith.

However if you want shared functionality for outlook then the bynari insight connector is really good.

It appears to be ugly to put it on SME.  I am looking at this right now.  We too wanted to make it run under SME.  To much tweaking.  So we setup another box and are planning this for the Bynari 3.5.  The outlook calendar will pull from Bynari, all the email will come from SME.  They use same exact LDAP as SME.  All you should need to do it point the Bynari back at SME and all done.  ;-)  Will it work this good?????? Let you know on friday.  Aaron

Amphora does look very cool.  However, I am finding that installing it on e-smith is a non-trivial task.  At least for me.  The thing with Amphora is that it requires Postgresql and Zope.  Also, to get the version of Zope running that they recommend you have to compile it, so that requires installing the dev-tools (kernel headers, gcc, etc.)  That, in and of itself, is not so bad.  I actually got Postgresql and Zope up and running with not *too* much trouble, but unfortunately, I hit a road block with accessing the Amphora page.

In any case, I agree that Amphora has potential but it is not necessarily an easy solution.

I tried installing Bynari about a month ago, and ended up just trying it out on a dedicated machine.  It can be installed on an e-smith box, but its a rather involved process and probably not entirely worth it.  It's also not too stable under e-smith, but the stability issues probably had more to do with the problem situated between the chair and the keyboard.

I installed the trial version of the client and while it looked interesting, there were a few problems that I found.  Subfolders showed up as completely seperate folders such as:
seasons/spring
seasons/summer
seasons/fall
I was able to create new subfolders that stayed associated with its parent.

I imported my Outlook Express address book into an IMAP folder and was able to bring up the list while composing an email.  This will solve my having multiple contact lists at home and at the office.  Now I need to figure out a way of creating a shared corporate address book.

I like the way it sync's messages to the local folders automatically.

Messages still change their received date when you move them among folders.  I also noticed that the sent date and time was being modified.  Moving to Courier IMAP may be the best fix for this until someone comes up with a mail server install that supports ACL's.

As far as stability, I had several messages that gave errors while sync'ing. Outlook 2000 crashed a couple of times while testing as well.  I don't know if this is a problem with Outlook and UW-IMAP or Bynari.
