HTTPS Certificate problem

HTTPS Certificate problem
« on: April 29, 2002, 07:33:04 AM »
When either accessing webmail (https) or e-smith-manager, we're getting error messages regarding the certificate ("The certificate doesn't match the name of the server").  If you're a Mac user you can't even use IE - it will crash your whole box - error after error until it freezes up.  Netscape (Mac and PC) gives one error message and then it's fine for that one sitting, but then next time you go there, another error.  Very frustrating.  Checked manuals and everywhere through the admin menu and have taken every precaution to make sure the name of the server is "www.m-1.com", the address one types in to access webmail, etc.

Any ideers?  Any help would be much appreciated.  I know nothing about the SSL/Certificate issue.

Cheers,
Dave Scarbrough

IE gives me the error about the name not matching the certificate if I use https://www.mydomain.com. It works fine if I use https://mydomain.com, which is listed on the certificate as the issuer...

What name is listed on the certificate as issued to? Tried reinstalling the certificate on the client?

yep.  tried that.  still gives me the same error - "site name doesn't match certifiicate (www.m-1.com)"... The name of the server IS www.m-1.com...  AARRGGHH!!  I did find a site with some really complex methods to create new certifs and install them and I'll get to it when I have more time.  We'll see how that flies.

Turn down the security settings in your browser and have another go.

did that.  didn't work.  ie 5.1 for mac just does NOT like the default generated certifs in e-smith.  i'll be trying the procedure from nyetwork.org next.
