Urgent Flexbackup Restore Problem

Urgent Flexbackup Restore Problem
« on: May 14, 2002, 05:50:20 AM »
I have had a SME v5.0 server crash on me yesturday, the hard drive had failed.

I am trying to restore from the tape backups and I am having continual problems. I have used both the server-manager and flexbackup from the command prompt.

Using flexbackup from the command prompt I get the following error:

2119 Segment Fault

I am then asked if I want a core dump and thats it. I have tried 3 different tapes a couple of times each and get the same error message. If I try the same tape again I get the same segment fault error message but at a different restore point.

Please help if you can.

Thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention I have a Sony SCSI SDT-9000 tape drive and an Adaptec SCSI card that uses the AIC-7892 driver, all are detected by SME and have been doing backups for the last 6 months with no problems.

I have now installed SME 5.1.2 and using a backup from v5.0. I have the following message in my log file:

Do you have another tape available?  That would confirm that the tapes are good and the flexbackup software is to blame?

Jason

I have managed to restore the data but had to do it in small chunks. The only time I get these segment fault error messages are if I try to restore everything in one go.

I created a restore script that reads an external text fil with the list of directories i want to restore. I have managed to restore everything so far by only putting in 3 directories at a time into the text file.

Very wierd I don't think it is the tapes as all the data is going back onto the system. It could be flexbackup or even the hardware not sure really.

Thanks for replying.

Funny that I ran a restore test today and my server gave me the same error.

But if I restored the data in chunks (File location at a time) then all restored ok.

One thing that I had noticed was that it gave all of the file the wrong permissions but that could have been my fault.

Yes it is a bit of a pain. I managed to get all the data back and user account info etc. but only as a directory at a time.

Not sure if this is a bug or not?

Thanks for the reply
