Unknown Partition Type
« on: May 23, 2002, 12:27:46 AM »
My friend has a SME Linux Box the he stores his Home Movies on. (These are converted from VHS to VCD) He accidentally unplugged the wrong PC and now when his SME Linux Box boots up he gets this error...

***An Error occurred during the file system check
***Dropping you into a shell: the system will reboot
***when you leave the shell
Give root password for maintenance
(Or type Control-D for normal start)

As it boots up and lists all that "stuff" I notice that it states...

H d a = hda1 hda2 (hda5 hda6)
H d b = Unknown Partition table

I have tried to do the fsck hdb and it has found some errors and I said YES to fix them. I still get the same error on boot.

If I give it the root password, and re-apply the mount
Mount -t ext2 /dev/hdb /mnt/hdb1
I can see all the AVI's in there , but there is not enough room to move them to h d a.

Is there anyway to fix the Partition table without loosing the data that is on the hdb drive?
