VPN Network routing ques:

Ok here's the setup with 2 questions:
West Coast network lan with win98's DHCPing from a local SME 5.1.2 and out to the internet (normal setup and activity)
East Coast remote users on Win98 perr-to-peer setup and each pc VPN's to West Coast VPN to share files/printers.
1- While each PC is VPNing does all traffic (browsing...etc) first go out to West Coast server, THEN out to the internet and back the same, or does all traffic go out the local East Coast ISP but only file sharing/printer sharing go over VPN?

IF we setup an SME 5.1.2 server at each end and VPN the 2 servers together, then do the win98's locally (at each end) just do normal setups without VPN and talik to their local SME, where the SME's themselves are VPN'd together?  And are they all shared since ALL win98's are talking to their local SME's?   And is all traffic to the local ISP except for file sharing/printer sharing, or how does the browsing traffic route?

I hope these questions make sense.

The next question if the #2 scenario works, I'm assuming using the freeswan setupm then has anyone utilized and setup and file replication/mirroring (not exactly HA),m or maybe remote nightly backup of data file between the 2 serverrs?

Thank you all.

You can specify in the TCP/IP properties of the VPN connection whether or not the PC uses the remote gateway as the default.
