Topic: cdroms do not mount after upgrade

I have upgraded a server from 4.1.2 to 5.1.2. I have 3 cdroms that were mounted from fstab without problems in 4.1.2. /dev/hdb , /dev/hdc , and /dev/hdd. The upgrade was succesful, however the cdrom's can not be mounted anymore. I get the 'wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock' error message.

what could this be?

Have you tried mount -t iso9660 ???
Maybe that will help.

Of course I should have looked in the faq. Now, according to the faq, I have removed the ide-scsi module from the kernel. Then I was able to mount the cdrom's again. But this is only a short term solution because when I (or more important, someone else) reboot(s), the cdrom's will not be mounted automagically. For a permanent solution I want to 'reconfigure lilo so that the init ramdisk is not loaded' as the faq says. Can I just remove (or comment out) the line: initrd=/boot/initrd-2.2.19-7.0.8.img ?
Is this without any danger to the system?

I removed the ide-scsi module from the kernel. It is loaded into the kernel at each boot. When it is removed, you can mount your cdrom again, but you have to do this after each boot. This was not satisfying to me, so I made a new server and loaded a fresh version 5.1.2 on it. That worked. I have also read somewhere that with version 5.5 this error is solved. So if you use version 5.5. you should not have any problems.

I have version 5.5  from a upgrade and I am having the same problem...

OK, thanks, maybe a problem with upgrade.
with version 5.1.2 I didn't have problem using the way listed in the contributed how to, but upgrading to 5.5 this method does not work and is advised in the page.
 Biggest problems in e-smith are always the upgrades, I don't know an upgrade without problems. I don't recommend upgrading to 5.5 from my point of view since webmail has problems, and manager works very slow, I'll try a fresh installation instead ...if I get time to do it!.
If your system is customized even a little there are always problems upgrading.
