Load Tape Notification Problem

Load Tape Notification Problem
« on: June 16, 2002, 08:24:49 PM »
I set up my tape backup to do regular backups everynight. The backups work well, but I do not get that notification email that reminds me to change the tape.

I got it after the first backup when I initially setup the backups in server-manager but that was the only time.

I have all adminstrative messages being forwarded to my account, but for some reason that one doesn't come. In fact, if I login as "admin" and check mail, it is not there either.

Anyone else have this problem? If so was there a fix?

I am using 5.1.2 with Update 1 installed.

Thanks for the help.

If there is a tape loaded in the tape drive at the time of the notification, NO notification will be sent. Is this the case ?

I believe if the tape is in the unit no email will be sent. Also check the email address used for administrative notices in the server-manager.

Mine works fine...

I always get a e-mail at around 2.30am ...notifying that the backup was done successful...

And we always put in the tape around 5pm daily....

So... the e-mail message will be sent even if there is a tape in the drive...

There are two emails. One to remind you to place the tape in the drive, the other after the backup is completed. I believe if the tape is in the drive you will not get the reminder.

Have a look at /sbin/e-smith/backup.

I always do have a tape in the drive. I guess that is why I do not get an email.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.
