IMP 3 automatically fills in user admin at login screen

IMP 3 automatically fills in user admin at login screen
« on: July 01, 2002, 01:31:06 PM »
Hi all,

I'm sorry if this is already covered in another topic, but I couldn't find anything with a forumsearch.

I recently upgraded to IMP 3 on my fresh installed SME 5.1.2 server by using Dan Brown's howto.

Everything is working pretty well, no problem at all! But..one thing I wanted to ask :)

When I contact IMP, it automatically fills in admin at the user field. Nothing to worry about, but I'm wondering why he's doing that :s

Is there anyone who can tell me how I can configure IMP that it leaves this field blank by default?

TIA,

Timothée

This has been mentioned before but never resolved.  Mine constantly does it between 3 names.  Mine, mp3 which is an Ibay, and another users.  No idea why, and it doesn't seem to harm anything.

Oh, do you have a link for me to the previous discussion of this issue? I would like to know if for example Dan Brown, as the contributor of the IMP 3 upgrade for SME, knows by what it is caused.

It surely doesn't harm anything, but it would be nice if there is a solution :)

I don't recall if I'd contributed to the previous discussions, but for the record, I don't have a clue.  It happened to me a few times, but it hasn't done it for a long time.  I didn't change anything (at least not anything that I know of); it just stopped happening.  Upgrading to IMP 3.1 might help.

Hmm...it isn't happening everytime indeed, but I can't recall the way of "entering the login screen" where it didn't fill in the userfield automatically.

Maybe it stops after a few days?!

Is it advisable to upgrade to IMP 3.1 at a "production" server? Is it already stable at SME 5.1.2 and what benefits does it bring more than leaving the userfield blank? :)

IMP 3.1 itself is considered stable.  Whether the SME integration of it is stable is another question, and it hasn't been extensively tested yet AFAIK (though I've been using it for a while with no apparent problems).

Ok, that's what I wanted to know. I think I'm upgrading to IMP 3.1 on my test server and upgrade that server to SME 5.1.2. When it appears to be stable, I'll upgrade to IMP 3.1 on my "production" server. To do so now I think is a bit tricky :) The benefits of the initial upgrade to IMP 3.0 on this server are more important to me than the "userfield" issue.

Do you know if we can expect IMP 3.0 or 3.1 in SME 5.5. final? In devinfo mailing list I read something about 3.1 but didn't follow those threads completely to know what I can expect there.

SME 5.5 final will, I believe, contain IMP 3.0.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'll try SME 5.5 on my testserver as soon as it is available as final release and definitely report it as a bug when it also pre-defines the userfield at IMP login (while it is a supported feature at that moment and not an unsupported contrib)...maybe they know a fix for it then :)

If I can find the cause of it myself, I'll post it here.

Hello,

I had the same, but when I rebooted the server the problem was gone.
Have you tried rebooting?

Oh well, that's another option for sure. As far as I can remember I didn't reboot the server yet :)

I need to reboot the server to check the bios settings related to the LPT port (got a strange printererror, but I'll report that in another topic when I can't get it fixed), so I'll try that suggestion too! Hope it fixes things.

Thanks all for thinking with me :) Now I hope someone is able to give an answer on my other question about the blade 2 installation (see topic from RequestedDeletion).

Mine's been doing it for months, rebooting the server does not cure it in my case...

This is a hypothesis -- I don't have time to check right now.

You see it being filled in as admin and mp3 -- probably two users whose
passwords you enter into a http-basic-auth password challenge on your
server. I suspect IMP notices that you're already logged in to a site on that
host via basic auth (it's in the HTTP headers), and helpfully fills in the
username you used for http auth in the login widget.

Cheers,

Probably not (at least with 5.5) - I'm accessing it from work with no previous auth being performed and "admin" gets pre-filled for me, too.

(Gee, with an NT logon this can be addressed through a Registry change - of course, that means you'd have to run NT, which would not be a Good Thing...)
