upgrade to 5.5
« on: July 04, 2002, 02:31:08 PM »
Hay guys and gals,

I have just upgraded my e-smith box to 5.5 and i have noticed an issue, I am wondering if anybody else has run into the same problem.

i can no longer access my ibays or my primary web site via samba, i can ftp, web, and my e-mail works fine...

A long time ago i upgraded my samba ( some time in 4.12 i think ) and have not though of it sence... but it is the only thing i can think of that I may have contributed to the down fall of my server.

if anybody can offer any help i would be very thankfull.  : )

Hi,

Create a custum template-fragment  for 11workgroup.
e.g. copy the 11workgroup fragment from /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/smb.conf/11workgroup to
/etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/smb.conf/11workgroup

Make this copy look like this:
# [11workgroup]
# workgroup = NT-Domain-Name or Workgroup-Name
    workgroup = yourworkgroupname

where yourworkgroupname is the correct workgroup.

expand the template: /sbin/e-smith/expand-template /etc/smb.conf
restart samba: service smb restart

that's it.

ps. after this issue is fixed by an update you can safely remove the custom template-fragment, expand, and restart samba again.

As did I:

http://www.e-smith.org/bugs/index.php3?op=showBug&bugID=73

:-)

(Please remember that we can't always get to reading every post
on the boards, so please check the known-bugs list first,
and if you think you've found a bug that isn't there, tell
us about it at bugs@e-smith.com. Thanks!)

Cheers,

Thanks for the replys.  : )

The migrate-imp-to-turba  problem is solved.

however the big problem is that i cant access my ibays or my printer over the windows network.... i cant get the e-smith server to come up in windows networking at all.  I tryied RequestedDeletion's fix but it did not apear to work at all.

  : (

Thanks for trying. I think i will go back to 5.12 till the bugs get worked out.
Does any body know if a 5.5 backup will be able to be restored on to a 5.12?

thanks again.

Hi Randy,

It should work.

Did you:
1. create template fragment
2. expand the temaplte
3. restart samba

Re: upgrade to 5.5 lost hp 890c

When I upgraded to 5.5 I lost the ability to print with a HP 890C that I have had attached to an e-smith (SME) server for ages. Nothing I have done will allow it to print although it is recognized by both Windows 2000 and XP. I now have the printer hooked directly to a W2K system. I don't want to share it, that is what my server is for. Anyone have a solution to this problem?
