Topic: 98 Clients Lose Logon Script Drive Mappings after Re-Install

Hi !

I wondered if anyone else came across this? Probably a Win thing
but is unusal I think ?

I recently have done a re-install of 5.1.2 which went great. Everything back
to normal in quick time (or so I thought)

The next day I got a call from the office saying just two of the clients cant
access files.

After doing some phone Q&A it seems that they can see the server in
Network Neighour Hood, they can access their HOME files manually
BUT the logon script just doesnt run.

They can logon to other clients fine its just two clients that are effected.

No other settings have changed and I have tried un/re-installling all Network
requirements including NIC drivers to no avail - I get right back to situ above !

I know I could talk them thru mapping the drives manually but would like to
know whats gone wrong in case I or others encounter this problem again !

Sounds like they are not configured to logon to a Domain, or that the e-smith box is not a domain master, or the login script is in the wrong spot.

Any of these could cause the prob but as you just rebuilt the e-smith box my guess would be options 2 or 3 (or both )

Do you have "Roaming Profiles" set to YES. If this is set to No the command "net use h: /home" will fail.

Two points :-

I have had the server working for 12 months without roaming profiles
set to YES and it works perfectly, HOME drive mappings and all !!!

Maybe you have found different . . . .

Point two : Its only two machines that are effected, 8 others work great !!!

Workaround

I have copied my netlogon.bat onto the two workstation HDD's
and am running it from Windows Startup Folder.

Theres only 5 lines, 4 are NET USE drive mapper lines the last pulls
a welcome splash screen across from netlogon directory at which point
I get access denied'.

You cant see the netlogn directory from the other machines either
and I am pretty sure it should be hidden anyway and is only accessed
by Windows NT Domain login authentification at login time.

Someone said that I would need to edit the windows registry to resolve
this issue but didnt know which keys . . .

Anyone any further ideas ?

Sometimes you look over the basics !

Check FILE PERMISSIONS !

My netlogon.bat had admin rwx permission only !
