email error
« on: July 09, 2002, 09:13:15 AM »
I had a problem in a program and received approx. 2000 emails.  From the shell, I went to /home/e-smith/Maildir/ and found the folder that had the messages.  I deleted everything in the folder and am now wondering if that messed up the mail server.  It seems that I am now unable to receive email.  I tried sending to myself from webmail and get an error saying it can't be saved to my sent-items folder.  Any suggestions?  Any way to fix the email without restoring the server?

Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions!

In the Maildir folder, you should have 4 items -- 3 folders (cur, new, tmp) and a .uidvalidity file (no content) -- all of these files should be owned by the admin user and admin group ..

I am not quite sure what the .uidvalidity  file is for as only a handful of the user accounts on my server has them.

If your still unable to receive emails, check your logs for delivery failure notices and post them here.
