Hello everyone,

Is there someone who knows if the VIA Eden 5000 Processor copmpatible is with E-Smith, this systemboard is made by VIA and is extremely small and the proc doesn't need cooling, so the perfect webserver in the closet.
On their site they say that it is compatible with the latest version of Linux (?) so before buying I want to figure if someone has tested this all-in-one before !!

Looking forward to your reply,

Best regards

FYI, the system gives up some performance in order to get the low power requirements and cool operation. On benchmarks, it's scoring in the Pentium 233 area. Probably ok for a home or very small business SME, but definitely nothing too big. Going with the C3 800 version (about US$10 more) which does have a fansink on it boosts performance quite a bit I'm told. This one is becoming a big hit with the carputer (MP3, GPS, etc.) people.

I am just knocking one together with a pretty unbranded mother board but it does say via c3 upon boot and is 1gz cpu. As its gone in a 1u case it seems ideal.

The mobo i had this morning had no keyboard option in bios to allow boot without and no power on after power fail options also the fan was going to be a problem with height.

The C3 is a standard Socket370 x86 chip. It's basically a different brand Celeron.

The Eden is something completely different. It's a highly integrated board (CPU, video, sound, NIC). The higher-end version does use a low-power C3 CPU. But the chipset (including the onboard video and NIC) may not be supported.

FYI, here's what we're talking about. http://invisibill.unimatrix01.org/images/eden5000.jpg Just add RAM and a HD and you have a complete computer...

The board i have used  also has integrated cpu, video, lan, sound and just required ram and HD. It is not as your picture but i was just trying to help as it has a via chipset.

I note your point about video and lan driver, most video can be driven by basic drivers for console use and as in my case the realtek 8100 was not listed in the redhat compatability but is happy with auto selected 8039 drivers.

Basically i would suggest doing as i have done and buy locally. This gave me the option to try and take back the first board this morning.

The CPU is integrated as well? No ZIF socket? Interesting...  I'd love to hear any details about the board that you can provide...

Hello Bill,

Check this link:

I was wondering, if there is a reseller in the US which can offer this board at a lower price than the Dutch distributors.

Bill,

As i said earlier mine was very unbranded no names on the box or in the manual. Having a search around the net this one is the same
http://www.baber.com/baber/411/pcchips-m787clr.htm

The cpu is soldered in and supplied with the board as is a very small low profile fan. The heatsink is very small at only a few millimeters height.

The board seems to perform well although obviously its not bleeding edge. Ideally suited to the 1u case i have mounted them in. Micro atx.

Hello,

The board was delivered and i've installed 5.12 on it and it works like a charm and it's extremely lownoise, the only thing that wasn't recognized was the USB ports but I don't them, but is there a way of getting the drivers for the via USB chip ?.
And yes it ain't bleeding edge but as a gateway, fileserver it performs quit well.
