Hi,

I just upgraded my SME server to 5.5, and now, mymail clients must use servers IP address to get mail, not the hostname. If they attempt to use the hostname they get "no transport available" from Outlook 2000.
The website the server hosts still resolves, and i don't see any unusual messages in the logs..help?

Try telneting to the hostname port 110 (if you use Pop)  from the client.  See if you get anything strange.  Also, when you ping from the client do you get the right ip?  Internal or external IP?

I just learned a few things about upgrading to 5.5...

If you have any customizations (templates-custom), they can definitely interfere with the upgrade process.

After the last upgrade, the smb.conf file was all messed up.  Win98 machines couldn't even log in because of it.  I deleted the customizations (they were no longer needed anyway because of new features) and rebuilt the smb.conf file to get everything working.

RAV Antivirus and Twiggi may also break.  I had to upgrade to the latest rpm for Twiggi.  I had to uninstall RAV (dug it out) and reinstall using the latest of Darrell's rpm's to get it working correctly.

Sure enough, it now replies to local pings with the external address.
Why would this change? If I try to enter my 10.0.0.* network as local, the SME server says it already recognizes this as local.

I figured it out. I added the 5.5 SME server to the list of DNS servers my clients were using, now they route locally.
