2 sets of mirrored drives ?
« on: August 09, 2002, 06:27:48 PM »
I am currently running 2 SME's, will be 3 soon. I believe in the theory to separate system drives and data drives. For my 3rd box my idea is :

1) install raid 1 on hda / hdc ( 2 x 40 gb drives for system )
2) install raid 1 on hdb / hdd ( 2 x 120 gb drives for the data )

The standard procedure would be to physically connect hda / hdc, then install SME5.5 as raid one. There will be no problem. Now I physically connect hdb and hdd, format hdb and hdd as ext2. And then regsiter hdb in fstab ? or maybe also hdd ?

Question : how could I mange that my data drives ( which are to be mounted  by fstab ) at mountpoint /.. /myibay are also mirrored ? Somebody has any idea ? I am using SME becos I am not a linux guru - that's probably the sense of SME to help non linux gurus. Before putting up such a system, would appreciate to get an advice if this is possible to have 2 addtitional drives which are mirrored.

Hi, don't know if this of any use but.....

I hecently set up a SME with 4 deives...

hda & hdb were 4.5g with the SME os loaded onto them..
hdc & hdd were 18g with /home loaded onto them..
Both sets of drives were mirrored and then I loaded the Raid monitoring rpm from Darrells' site. All went through no problems.
This was set up and working on 5.2.1, but unfortuantly it would not setup on 5.5, unless i installed 5.2.1 first them did a upgrade straight away.
Hope this helps,
Karl
