Unable to see Ibays - SME 5.5
« on: August 13, 2002, 06:54:42 AM »
Today I reloaded one of our development servers with SME 5.5 - it had previously been running 5.12 without any problem.

The problem that I am experiencing is that it is not showing any available Ibays when browsed from the local network. It also shows nothing when queried via net use from Windows workstations (XP /2000).

It will however show a shared printer that is shared from the Windows 2000 box that has not been set up on SME ????

Our development network consists of the following:
1) Windows 2000 server running as a file server in workgroup mode (ie: no auth)
2) SME server 5.5 running Postgresql for development as well as external website
in Gateway mode
3) XP workstations using XP Pro
4) Developer workstation running RedHat 7.2
5) Win 98 workstation for some admin

Anyone have any bright ideas here.... I feel really dumb as this should be a no brainer.

The only customizations loaded on the SME box are mod_gzip, the CGI fix for ibays (path problems), and the loading of the Postgresql 7.2.1 rpms.

Thanks,
Darrin

I don't see your problem listed here, but it's always a good place to look
http://www.e-smith.org/bugs.php3

Are your W98 machines seeing the server ?

What about this link and thread

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=14623.msg55903#msg55903

any use ?

Checked all the server manager settings in 5.5, something may have changed during the instal, that conflicts with existig servers eg PDC, DHCP etc.

OK - I like many others have just succumbed to to little sleep too much coffee.

I took a quick run through the samba logs again and I discovered the machine is working perfectly....

When I was teaching new net admins I used to tell them to always do their "dummy checks" - if two machines on the network are trying to use the same name what does netbios do ?? It tells the new machine (my SME server) to shut up !!

Thanks for the help all and sorry for the dumb question.
