SME 5.5 Port Forwarding problem: connection refused
« on: August 15, 2002, 10:20:38 AM »
I had a working installation of 5.5 with a single port forward applied using the Port Forwarding control panel.

My hard drive went south, so I reinstalled 5.5 on a new drive and restored the backup. It should be noted that the original 5.5 installation (from which the backup was made) was an upgrade from 5.1.2, which was an upgrade from 5.0.

The Port Forwarding control panel was not restored, so I reinstalled the RPM. The status display showed that the pre-existing port forward  was still present and accounted for. Unfortunately, it isn't working properly.

From inside the local network, I can access the non-SME server directly via ip (x.x.1.12).

From inside the local network AND from the external network, I (and other users) cannot access the non-SME server via the SME port forward (x.x.1.1:591 --> x.x.1.12:80).

Since this was working before I reinstalled and restored the backup, something probably went awry during the restore process. Any information that can be provided to help me troubleshoot would be appreciated.

So far, I have tried:
- removing the forwarded port, then restoring it.

Thanks in advance!

Forgot to mention: attempts to access the non-SME server via port forward trigger the message "Connection refused when attempting to contact...".
