2 way Satellite Directway

Hi
Would be very interested if anyone has developed or has heard of SME rpm for Hughes Network Systems 2 way Directway Satellite Communications. Bigpond/Telstra are giving free dishes and installation to extended remote areas in Australia using the Directway 1400 system (USB RX & TX units)
TIA

well,
I pointed my e-smith box to a windows box as gate!
I used Browsergate (two box register are free (http://www.netcplus.com/)) plus compatible with systens like starband!
Created a custom template for dhcpd leases point to e-smith (not to windows browsergate nat!)
Created a custom template for squid and transproxy + ipchains rule no masq mynet to anywhere!
Pop, smtp, http(s), messenger, ping, etc working fine!!!

Yes I agree with regards the cost but in this case Telstra (Aust) under Government directions is givint people in remote extended areas FREE dish and installation. That is had to beat.
As a back stop if no other solution is found will have to make a dumb Windoz box the gateway. Have you tried this configuration?

Gordon,

If you are going to do that i would use win 2000 pro and enable routing.

Do you have a howto for these settings and did they allow vpn etc to the SME box?

We have successfully setup MS ICS and that actually works but no access back to the SME, but then the satellite may block usuable VPN.

Hi Gordon!
Vpn not work because satelite provider leases private ip!
My solution are call vpn from "jungle-office" to city-office!
Then workstation packets route from

Just wondering if you ever got it working? I am running a SME 5.5 with Update 2 server and dial-up net access is just too slow. Only problem is that we are out of range of Tel$ra's Cable/ADSL area so Satellite is our only hope as IDSN is far too expensive.  I'm looking at getting 2 way satellite from Tel$ra but do not want to lose the SME box that currently acts as our email server/firewall and gateway!! So _please_ tell me you got it working? Thanks
