I have read on here that you do not need to have an MX record to receive email. But, my DNS provider has a backup email system that I would like to take advantage of.
I need a little guidance on the proper MX settings.
Mail for zone: mydomain.com.
Handled by server: smtp.dnsprovider.com
Preference: 5
Mail for zone: mydomain.com.
Handled by server: mydomain.com.
Preference: 1
Is this second entry correct? (the first is done by the dns service, the lower the number the higher the priority, so server 1 comes before 5) Should the zone and server be the same, or should the server be mail.mydomain.com.
This is a STOCK SME 5.5 box with patches and updates including secure SMTP.
Mail is returning to sender as undeliverable.
