routing to server in internal network
« on: September 01, 2002, 09:30:09 AM »
I have an e-smith connected to a cisco 678 router on a DSL that works fin as a web server and internet connection server for the rest of the inside lan. I also have a Cobalt web server on the inside network that I would like to use to hos additional sites and e-mail. The cobalt can be seen and accessed on the inside lan but it doesn't have access from the internet. I hace set up the virtual Servers and set up the host names and address pointing to the inside server ip address. The virtual domains are working although they are ending up at thier i-bays instead of the ip address that they are pointed to in the host names setup.
Is it possible to host from behind a server gateway provided by the e-smith server?
Tnaks for reading,

Yes, as long as you don't mind forwarding ports.

ie

web pages - port 80 ( ignore ssl for now )
will be served by the sme server.
port 81 could be forwarded to port 80 on the qube.
so http://smeserver:81 would really be the qube.

Other option.

Create a php script, which acts as a gateway ( ie. fetches pages from qube and displays them ).

What spec is your server ?

If it is better than an AMD 400 then drop the qube, sme will out perform it hands down.

I was realy wanting to use the frontpage option on the RAQ 450I. That way I could allow the other sites an easier method of Admining thier own sites and users. The SME is a 600 PII - 512 mg. The RAQ is a 450 with 512 meg.
I was hoping I could use the Host Names and Address screen to do the routing but is sounds like it needs to go deeper than that. I like the security of the SME and was trying to work around the Frontpage security issues.
Thanks,
