Privoxy - anyone installed it on SME?
« on: September 10, 2002, 05:03:48 PM »
I use Privoxy (http://www.privoxy.org) at home on my WinXP machine and it does a fine job of removing banner ads,pop ups and other annoying trash. Has anyone installed the Linux version on SME?
There is a specific Red Hat version and installation guide for installing alongside Squid but as I'm a newbie to all this I'm a bit loathe to take the project on for fear of breaking the box in some way.

Would appreciate any thoughts from someone who has / will install it.

BannerFilter sounds similar, if you're interested in trying that...

Hi,
I to really want a solution that will kill all of these pop-ups etc before they get to the Win PC's.
Surely there must be someone that has implemented a solution that works?

I have installed a program called adzapper, it blocks popups and banner ads, etc, etc from getting past the proxy, very handy for people on dial-up that pay for downloads :-)

The only problem is that it is a redirector for squid, so if you run squidGuard or the like then installation is a bit trickier, but it works.

Use Mozilla - it has a configuration option built in which stops pop-ups (and it's a great browser too).
