Restore in Progress....indefinetly
« on: September 15, 2002, 07:33:14 AM »
A tape restore has failed.  Now when I access the server-manager "backup or restore" panel I get "Restore in Progress" and my only options are to either refresh or configure the tape drive?? Even after rebooting the server, and taking the tape out. It has given up on trying to restore but it won't go backup to normal functionality, its just stuck. Does anyone know how to stop this restore process??

Thanks

Jason
I have seen something similar to this, when doing a tape restore from one machine to another, 4.12 upgraded to 5.5 then restored to another 5.5. The restore appeared to finish in 10 minutes but never gave the Restore complete message even after waiting over 2 hours. I'm not sure of the full implications of doing so, but you can Reconfigure your server using the control Console. Answer No to the Stop using the Server question (or similar)  log in to the actual server as admin and then do Configure this server, You may need to change one of the settings so that the new config will be saved at the end. Then when it is up and working again just change the setting back again by repeating the Configure process.

Thanks for the help Ray, very interesting. That sounds like it would work but I already found a solution to the problem so I can't test it out.

I updated the SME 5.5 Server with Update2 and after the process was finished the backup routine was back to normal.

Jason, I've got the same issue, but already have Update 2 installed on my 5.5 box.  This is a production server, so I don't want to experiment too much with it.
Do you think reapplying Update 2 will worlk?

Thanks.
