Two servers/Squid?

Two servers/Squid?
« on: October 12, 2002, 07:19:52 PM »
Dear everybody

I am running two SME-servers on two different locations. Server one is a web server and hosting various web sites. Server two is a backup server for server one, and a gateway for my private home network. Every night a backup from server one is restored on server two.

My problem is, that e.g. the domain "mydomain.com" is hosted on server one. But when the backup is restored on server two (which is also gateway for my own network) I can't access mydomain.com because Squid (or whatever?) thinks that it should access mydomain.com on server two and not on server one where it is actually located.

Can anyone help me setting up Squid (is it Squid I need to re-configure?) to access the server that the DNS points to?

Thanks in advance,
Thomas

Kelvin

You could have used the hostnames and addresses panel in server manager, but if you are restoring a backup from server1 to server2, this would overwrite this setting each time (requiring you to re-do the entry in hostnames and addresses again).

Hi Kelvin

Yes, I could do that. But I also want server two to be stand by and ready to take over if server one for some reason breaks down or gets off line (e.g. on power or network errors). Then I can just change the DNS from server one to server two (which always has a backup) and my sites will still be up and running.

Thomas
