E-Smith & ATA133 controller card

Hi,

Now, I got E-Smith working on a COMPAQ Deskpro 2000 (a Pentium 1 ) with a 20 GB Harddisk.
I want to increase disk space and have a 80 GB HD with a ATA133 controller card.

My question: HOWTO install this controller card & new (2nd) HD?

The ATA133 card is from Highpoint, but the doc files only tell you howto install that card a the installation of linux self, not howto install this AFTER an installation

How did you get it to deal with a 20GB HDD even?

My old Gateway is bios limited to 2.1GB!

At first, my 20 GB HD did not work, but I found a BIOS upgrade (dating 1999) and that did the trick. (It had a 1.6 GB HD first...)

Ah, lucky... gateway didn't have such options for their ca. 1996 hardware

I downloaded the RedHat HPT302 driver (http://www.highpoint-tech.com/v1_RedHat_r133.zip)

In this ZIP is a PDF doc.
Under point 3 there is something about "Installing HPT302 driver on an Existing System"

I guess, with E-Smith, I need to use /tmp/2.2.16-22/hpt302.o

I tried STEP 2, but I got a message about the symbols.
Ok, there is something in the PDF about that...
But.. under 1) they say to load the SCSI modules first...
and/or
under 2) the say to recompile the kernel with scsi support

DEAD END for me, because I dunno howto

stuck after repomiling

you'll need some rpms for recompling

-kernel-source 2.2.19-7.0.8
-kernel-headers 2.2.19-7.0.8
-cpp
-gcc
-glib-devel
-glibc-devel
-glibstc++x-devel
-make
-ncurses
-ncurses-devel
-dev86

after having installed all of them go to /usr/src/linux

do "make clean"
then .... well follow the manual of HPT...

well,excatly here starts my own problem .... after recompiling the kernel i still have unresolved symbold, wether is use kernel-compiling-options:

-prompt for devellopment and/or incomplete code /drivers

and

-set version information on all symbols for moduls

... well, i hope someone knows what to do
