Topic: Backup UNIX file to E-smith

I need to save a copy of some files located on a UNIX machine running Sun Solaris (v2.6 I think) to an E-smith server. Can I do this, as E-smith does not support NFS?

Is it possible to tar up the required files on the UNIX box and then use FTP to transfer to E-smith server?

The idea is to perform a periodic back up of some config files every couple of weeks.
